Dear Woman…

I found this in one of my friend’s notes in Facebook, and I just felt compelled to share it with you all. Dedicated to all the lovely and wonderful ladies out there, whether you’re a Christian or not. You’re all amazing, and don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise! :)

We're all somebody's princess

When I created the heavens and the earth, I spoke them into being. When I created man, I formed him and breathed life into his nostrils. But you, woman, I fashioned after I breathed the breath of life into man because your nostrils are too delicate. I allowed a deep sleep to come over him so I could patiently and perfectly fashion you.  Man was put to sleep so that he could not interfere with the creativity. From one bone I fashioned you. I chose the bone that protects man’s life. I chose the rib, which protects his heart and lungs and supports him, as you are meant to do.  Your characteristics are as the rib, strong yet delicate and fragile. You provide protection for the most delicate organ in man, his heart. His heart is the center of his being; his lungs hold the breath of life.

Support man as the rib cage supports the body. You were taken out of him; not out of his head to top him, nor out of his feet to be trampled underfoot; but out of his side to be equal to him, under his arm to be protected, and near his heart to be loved. You are my perfect angel. You are my beautiful little girl.

Of all that lives and breathes, you are the most like me. Adam walked with me in the cool of the day and yet he was lonely. He could not see me or touch me. He could only feel me. So everything I wanted Adam to share and experience with me, I fashioned in you: my holiness, my strength, my purity, my love, my protection and support.

You are special because you are the extension of me. Man represents my image; woman, my emotions. Together, you represent the totality of God.

So man, treat woman well. Love her and respect her, for she is fragile. In hurting her, you hurt me. What you do to her, you do to me. In crushing her, you only damage your own heart, the heart of your Father and the heart of her Father. Woman, support man. In humility, show him the power of emotion I have given you. In gentle quietness show your strength. In love, show him that you are the rib that protects his inner self.

Thanks for sharing this! I'm not religious, but so many people take Eve's creation as a sign that woman should be submissive, so it was nice to see another opinion that stills fits with the text.

I love how this doesn't tell women to be submissive but rather, for men to respect women.

That definitely put a smile on my face. I love how it fit so well with the text and put woman in such a wonderful light, instead of being submissive and the fall of man…

    Hi Jenny!
I love this post. Thank you for posting it up.

Although I don’t belong into a religion, this note is very beautiful and has profound meaning! Makes me inspired to treat my man whenever I meet him, well.

So tell me. Did your friend make this up? Or was this from a sermon? Or a part from the bible? I am really curious!!

Haha, no, it's a letter that's been circulating online, and you can find different versions of it in many places. But it is based on the values/morals from the bible :)

Love this! Hahaha even if I'm not Christian, I think some morals/beliefs transcend religions, like this one :D

Hmmm… "delicate," "delicate and fragile," "little girl," "purity," "fragile" (again), "gentle quietness," "supports him/support man." I didn't find it beautiful, I found it insulting, and I am a "Christian." It might sound nice on the outside, but this is basically saying women are emotional little girls, who are supposed to be pure, fragile, and docile, and exist to support man. I could go through the whole thing, but I'm not going to do that here.

What about the words "strength" and "protect" and for men to "treat us well" and that we're "equals"? There's always two sides to everything, and by looking at specifically those words, you are going to see this in the context that woman should be submissive and that we're weak. But that's not what this letter is about. The little girl part is simply confirming the father-daughter relationship we have with God and how we will always be His little girls, just like how we'll always be our earthly dads' little girls.

I'm sorry that even though you're a "Christian", you still ended up interpreting the letter like this. And I'm not even gonna go into the whole purity/holiness thing, I think the bible stresses that enough.
