Fabulous hair products for curls and perms

Ever since I got my digital perm last month, I’ve been in a dilemma. I love my new curls and the body the perms gave my formerly limp hair, but at the same time, I missed the days when my hair was shiny and frizz-free. Also, I was not a fan of having to spend an extra 10 minutes styling my obscene bed-head kinks every morning. But thanks to these newfound hair goodies, I can still manage to walk out of my room with lovely curls.

Herbal Essence – Tousle Me Softly Finishing Touch Cream
I’ve always wanted to try out HE’s tousle me softly line ever since it came out, but my past experience with the brand held me back. But last week this little jewel was on sale at Target for $3, so I bought it thinking I had nothing to lose anyways. Oh am I glad I did. This is the only thing that can actually revive my curls each morning and keep them, while getting rid of the frizzies.

Each morning, I’d first wet my hair with water using a spray bottle. Then when it’s damp, I’d use a quarter size of the cream on each half of my hair and start scrunching and twisting. Yep, it’s that simple! My hair will feel a bit sticky at first and look crunchy, but as it dries, the stiffness softens and my hair is left smooth and frizz-free.
Frederic Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Cream
This is the green tube in the second picture. I bought this for my trip to Vegas this winter because I lacked travel-size hair products1, and oh I’m in love.

  1. It smells heavenly, hence makes my hair smell heavenly.
  2. It makes my damaged hair look less dull and fraggety2.
  3. It makes my hair softer.

I usually apply this as the final step in after-shower hair care routine. So leave-in conditioner + shine serum >> curl cream (more on this next) >> glossing cream. My hair looks a mess when one of these steps go missing.

Frederic Fekkai Luscious Curls Cream
I was originally going to buy just this for my Vegas trip, based on reviews by a girl who also got a digital perm, and I almost couldn’t find it the day before the flight. I’m so glad I did, because without this, my curls would just be limpy weird kinks. Like the glossing cream, this smells delicious as well3 and gives me more defined curls without the crunchies. I usually just left my hair air-dry afterwards, but I might try using a diffuser in the future.

  1. Damn airplane security and their 3 oz limit.
  2. Is this even a word? Obviously not according to spell check, but I could’ve sworn I heard this term somewhere before.
  3. In a fruitier and stronger way.

I’m a big Herbal Essence fan and have used their shampoo for years. I recently discovered that they’re doing hair mask too. I purchased their hair mask a while ago and that stuff is amazing.

I had no idea you’ve started to release hair products. I’m definitely going to check out what hair products they’ve got now!

Wow, so many Herbal Essence fans! Now I feel like I should definitely give their shampoos another try (I used dangerously straight before and it wasn’t that great). But I had no idea they have hair masks now, I definitely need to look into that!

I love Herbal Essences! I use their “Body Envy” shampoo and conditioner. This post reminded me of how much I want a perm, haha. I should probably wait until I’m older though xP Your routine sounds simple and good for your hair…I’m sure a lot of girls who walk around with crunchy curls at my school could learn a lot from you!

    • Jenny says:

Ooo, how is their body envy line? I’m currently looking for shampoos that will give my hair extra oomph without stripping it of moisture. My hair routine is actually pretty complicated in my opinion :/ I wish I could go back to the days when it was just shampoo, condition, leave-in cream, done.

I’ve been using Herbal Essence’s shampoo for quite some time and it smells lovely! First time I spent about an hour just sniffing the scent. Thank goodness it works too.

I love curls. I’ll be sure to note these prodcuts for future reference. ;)

You know, my only option now is to move all the content over to my other domain, but I hate changing links and whatnot. Plus, in about a year, the other one will expire too. Bad idea of me to “take things as they come” this time.

    • Jenny says:

Oh? I’ve yet to find an Herbal Essence product that didn’t smell too strong for me. I guess that would be one drawback of the cream. The smell is ok, but I’m not a fan of the in-your-face scent.

I am so happy to hear that there are awesome products for curly hair, especially since I have been considering getting a perm. I am so tired of my straight hair…but what kind of perm to get? I guess that I’ll have to do some research. :)

    • Jenny says:

Get a digital perm! You’ll need to go to an Asian hair salon though, since this technique originated from Asia. As opposed to regular perms that make you look like a poodle, digital perms gives you the soft curls/waves (depending on the size of the rod used), much like the kind you’d get when using a curling iron. You’ll definitely like the results :)

  5. Aleida says:

Ohh I used to love Herbal Essences but I decided to switch brands. Sometimes my hair gets a little ‘tired’ of using the same shampoo so I need to take a break from a brand now and then. I will definitely look into the cream it sounds lovely ~

    • Jenny says:

I used to love Herbal Essence back when they had the old packaging and scent (oh I LOVED that scent), but the new ones are just ok. I tend to switch around shampoo brands as well because I’ve yet to find one I REALLY like.

Can’t help but comment on this as well.

Do these work for straight perms as well?! Hahas I got a straight perm last year and I really need to treat my hair better. Blah, I hate my natural hair. I wish I don’t have to go through all these things.

    • Jenny says:

The Frederic Fekkai glossing cream should work for both straight and curly hair, since it’s mainly to make your hair shinier. The other 2 are mainly for enhancing waves and curls, so they won’t be any good for straight perms. I’ll be doing another post on hair treatment products soon (since my hair is uber damaged from the perm), and I’ll be recommending more products there.
