Hello, my name is Mimi

No, not me, but this thing to the left. Ever since the snow storm Friday night/Saturday morning, I have been snowed in my house. We got a total of 16 inches of snow, breaking the 1932 record making this snowstorm the biggest the Washington DC area has ever seen. Being snowed in, bored and all, I decided to get started on the logo/mascot for my portfolio. After about 3 hours, I got her *points to the left*.

Her name is Mimi, and I’m crossing my fingers hoping you guys can tell what it’s supposed to be. If you can’t, I’ll give you a hint: my portfolio site’s new name is going to be Origamee. Anyways, Mimi was first a photo, then after I put her in Vector Magic and edited the bitmap like hell using my pen tablet, she became what you see now to your left. The eyes and mouth were added last in Photoshop, and I didn’t touch Illustrator at all, since I can’t vector for life.

So please tell me what you all think of Mimi, suggestions and comments more than welcome. And to prevent further confusion (actually, it might cause some confusion initially), you can all call me Jenny instead :)

Don’t forget to vote for my design at CSS Creme! A big thank you to those who voted and spread the word for me :D

‘Mimi’ is very cute! You are very talented. :)

      Thank you!

Ah, so much snow! I kind of miss snow though. It’s been a while since I last lived in the north XD

Mimi is so cute! I love it! The only suggestion I can think of is the left ear. Seems like it might need shading on the right side so it looks like you’re looking into it.

    • Mimi says:

I thought I missed snow too, until I realized what a pain in the butt it was to have to shovel it off my car and deal with slippery roads and snow-piled parking lots -__-
I’ve added the shading to the ear, thanks for the suggestion!

    I was wondering why your twitter name had changed! Now I will have to get used to calling you Jenny.. ^^;;
I thought Mimi was a cardboard box at first, but when you mentioned Origamee, it makes more sense. She’s adorable!! But does that mean Wing Stranger Productions is no more?

16 inches?! Ack! We’ve been lucky so far to be spared from that much of snow. But we’ll see…

    Stay safe!

    • Mimi says:

Haha, yeah, sorry for the inconveniences :/
Well, I guess she’s still half a box, since that’s what she looks like when you actually make her, except with ears. The name Wing Stranger Productions isn’t going to be used anymore, since it was more of a spur-of-the-moment thing, as opposed to a well thought out idea.

Wow! That’s a very cute work! I just wanted to suggest that you must put shading on Mimi’s right ear just like the left one. Keep up the good work! :)

    • Mimi says:

Thank you! Yes, I’ve been wondering what to do with her right ear, since it’s hard to get it to look like what it does in real life. But I did add some shading to the updated version :)

That is such an adorable character! I love it! :) I can’t wait to see all the rest of the characters that you can come up with heehee. 16 inches of snow is A LOT! O_O Hope you guys are okay! Merry Christmas! :)

    • Mimi says:

I’m excited too, I’ve always loved origami, and it’s great to be able to tie it in with another hobby of mine. Most of the snow has been cleared by now, so the roads are safe again. I just hope it doesn’t melt, then freeze into ice again. That would be bad.

Awww! That is so cute! You did a good job with the vexel. I know what you mean about AI though. I’m scared to touch that. I want to learn to paint things using Sai or Corel painter someday… xD

Crap… 16 inches of snow. I have never seen that much snow… the most I have seen is 3 inches. LOL

    • Mimi says:

I’ve always wanted to try Corel painter, since I heard it works well with the pen tablet. So far I’m doing most of my work in Photoshop, though one of my New Year’s resolution is to learn Illustrator.
16 inches was a lot for me too, until I heard about New York and their 30 inches. Wtf o_O

  7. Leanne says:

wow Mimi is adorable. very cleverly done!

it doesn’t snow here so i can’t really imagine but the images on the news shows a whole lot of it!

    • Mimi says:

Thank you! Yes, apparently this was one of the biggest snow storms to hit the northeast coast! I just wish it could’ve happened on Christmas eve/day, haven’t had a truly white Christmas in a while.
