Japanese with Jenny!

I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, but never really had the time to get to it since classes have been keeping me busy. As some of you might know, I’m taking Japanese classes right now and on my way to pursuing a minor in the language. And if any of you has tried learning the language, you’ll know that with all these grammar points, phrases, and verb conjugations, it’s a LOT to memorize. I usually take notes in my texbook, but then it gets really disorganized and I can never find what I’m looking for, so from now on, I’m going to be writing out my Japanese notes here :D But some things first:

  • These notes are not meant for newbies.
So if you have no knowledge in Japanese, you probably won’t know what I’m talking about, since I will not be covering the basics.
  • These are meant for people who have basic knowledge in the language and would like to further their understanding in the grammar structures.
  • That being said, these are my notes, and I’m only a student myself, so bear with me if there are any mistakes in them.
  • If you do see any, please let me know in the comments!
  • These notes work best if you use the “Japanese: The Spoken Language1 textbook series, as that’s what I use for my classes.

So for those of you who are ONLY interested in my Japanese notes, please subscribe to Japanese with Jenny via rss. If you’re already subscribed to my blog, you don’t need to subscribe again. You also check out the most recent articles on my sidebar under “Japanese Notes“, and for the complete series, you can find it under “Japanese” in the archives. Yeah, I know, so far I only have 1 article, and that one grammar point has been screwing me over since last semester. -_-

Lastly, if any of you are interested in guest writing Japanese notes, let me know :D Credit will be given to you for that article, plus you get a cool little blurb after the post about yourself.Error processing request

  1. Horrible material in my opinion, but I don’t have much of a choice there -_-

Wow that's pretty awesome! I don't speak any other language but English. A friend of mine started teaching himself Japanese by watching anime! Have you tried doing that?

My boyfriend is studying Japanese, I'll get him know about your articles. I think he'll be really interested :D

Reply to your comment: I was planning to write a tutorial on that because took me some time to figure it out. I'll let you know once I've written the tutorial.

This is wonderful! I stopped taking Japanese after 2 semesters and now my grammar is all wonky. Gotta get back on track :)

Ooh, I think it's a good idea to put your notes online. It definitely makes them easier to find! I've always wanted to learn Japanese but have been lazy to. Perhaps I will look at your notes later whenever I finally get started!

Google said you are linking my old site, mimi-goodies.com, can you please change your link to http://le-mimi.net ? :D If not, sorry for the mistake!

Ah nice! I've always wanted to learn Japanese! I want to take it at school but I didn't want to "waste" my elective space in case I decide to do a double major or minor.

Shame I don't know the basics of Japanese. I've always wanted to learn, but never got around to it. I'm busy trying to teach myself Korean in my free time, when I can. Still, I love the concept of posting your notes.

WOO! I'm totally gonna keep up on this. I have been trying to learn japanese myself (language and kanji) and OMG it's hard. So thanks for writing this out for us. I love you! xD

No problem! :D I tried self-teaching myself before I started college, and I think I used the Japanese from Zero series. I found it quite effective in learning the basics, at least a lot more effective than what I'm using in school right now. Watching anime and dramas also help, a LOT.

I used to study Japanese privately for 3 years. I learned a whole bunch but you're so right. ITS SO FREAKING HARD TO MEMORIZE. I would always fumble with the verbs, right to the day I stopped taking lessons. I really enjoyed learning it! I hope to get back into it soon, too.

Right after I get the money to afford private lessons again. :( It's not a mainstream language around here.

Ah yes, you understand my pain then! For me, I'm ok when I'm writing and reading, but speaking-wise I stutter and fumble as if I've never learned the language before. I wish I could take private lessons, I'm sure it's a lot more effective than taking classes.

wow that's so awesome! i wish i knew japanese…or learn XD my friend is taking it though and yep, all that conjugations and what not @..@

    • http://riyuu.org Jenny

The basics is actually quite easy now that I think back about it…but yes, once it gets to the conjugation…ugh, I want to kill myself -__-

I'm get insanely jealous when I hear about someone learning Japanese. I'd love to myself.
