Learn to argue right

Being snowed in at my apartment at school was fun for the first few days, but this is getting kind of ridiculous, and I’m starting to get bored. Not in the sense that I miss classes (God forbid, I rejoice in the fact that I get a break from 21 credits), but I miss seeing other people asides from my roomies. So being bored as I am, I happened across this article: Top 10 Reasons Why Mac Sucks. Being a Mac-lover, I was intrigued and read it in hopes of being enlightened.

Hell, NO. the only thing I was enlightened with after reading the article was how a self-righteous ignorant douchebag could end up as a writer for CollegeTimes. I seriously thought this article was a joke or spoof of some sort, until I read the author’s comments. Forget the fact that I’m as Pro-Mac as they go, the article just makes PC users look bad, as if they had to sink to such low arguments to attack Mac-fans. Seriously? Shitting on Mac users by calling us “wannabes” was the #1 reason why Mac sucks? This article is the epitome of how you should NOT build your argument.

I then happened across another article, this time with 65 reasons why Mac sucks (damn, I have a hard time coming up with even 3 reasons). Instead of gnashing my teeth like I did the previous one, I actually found myself nodding occasionally as I read it. Instead of being written by what may as well be a whiny 5-year old who probably used nothing newer than the iMac, it was actually written with legit unbiased facts, backed by actual usage on an UPDATED machine. No bashing, no whining. Now THIS is how you should build your arguments.

The ’65 Reasons Why Mac Sucks’ article is pretty interesting. The writer put some right points there, but some points are just not correct anymore. There have been some improvements on the new Macs. :)

However, comparing between Mac and Windows is like a never-ending battle. So I choose to use both machines and take the best of both worlds. :P

    • Jenny says:

@Oridusartic: Definitely. I didn’t actually look into all the points he listed, but just his tone of voice throughout the post made his arguments seem a lot more legit and worthwhile than those of JJ’s. But yeah, as much as I love Mac, I do prefer Windows for playing games :P

They were really desperate for reasons in that first one, it just sounds like a rant and not a very good one. It’d be good for a small discussion group by people who hate Mac and no others. The second is a bit too much but yes, the argument has been given better thought.

Writing for the College Times must be a breeze…

    • Jenny says:

I agree, he really should save his lousy arguments for fellow Mac-haters, but keep it off the WWW. The second article was written a while back, so while his reasons might have been true back then, a lot of them aren’t applicable anymore because those problems have already been addressed.

Hell, I should write for the College Times, but I can’t be arsed to write along morons such as JJ himself.

  3. Ongaku says:

LMAO, no one would actually miss class, but not being able to go outside or move around can be a real drag so I understand what you mean. XD

I really hate when idiots go around bashing things without the facts or any sort of intelligence. DX

I’m not a mac lover or a pc lover. LOL I have mutual feelings for the both of them. I’m more use to a PC because that is what I can afford, but I have used macs from school and other places and found them to be just fine.

    • Jenny says:

Yes, mindless bashing is the worst. He’s pretty much hating on Macs for the sake of hating, which just irks me. People who don’t know what they’re talking about just really need to STFU, yet it’s ironic that they’re usually the loudest out of the bunch.

  4. Jenny says:

the day it snowed no one was allowed out but the sun is out now and we have all our roads cleared. BUT!!

    more snow on monday…. ugh!

Read the article wrote by JJ, yeah I think his review was one sided and no enough researched were made to substantiate his review. I also notice the flow and how he defend his opinion…I am not impress.

  6. Ariel says:

Ah, the joy in school is always in friends. :-)
I’ve never used mac, but I can see how dumb the 10 reasons there are!

  7. Haley says:

I have used many versions of the Mac OS as well as many versions of Windows. I personally prefer to use the Windows OS because I have a lot of computer games that do not run the same (or at all) on Mac.

I think it depends on what you want to get out of your everyday computer experience. People who use graphic/film/audio programs utilize Mac OS more because it is better for those areas. People who play HD games, watch movies online, and do not have a bigger budget usually go for Windows. People like me who are total nerds, want 100% control over their OS/computer, and like to delve deep into the computer registry prefer UNIX-based OS systems like the various distributions of Linux. It depends on what you want to do on your computer.

Windows is error/virus prone, Mac is expensive and inefficient with CPU management, and Linux OS systems are esoteric to the general computer user. No OS is perfect, so I don’t think people complaining as bad as that guy are justified with their accusations. Lame.

    • Jenny says:

Gaming seems to be the number 1 reason why people prefer Windows over Macs, and that’s completely understandable. I have Windows 7 installed on my Mac through BootCamp so I can play games as well :P But like you said, it really depends on what you’re main use for the computer is, and for me, it’s design, so Mac ftw.

  8. Cat says:

That top 10 Mac sucks article is pretty bad. I mean, really? Insulting Mac users as an argument? I agree that the 65 reasons article is a lot better. I like the comparison screenshots he uses to back up his points too. Helpful visuals is a plus!

And, this new layout looks great! Such a cute header, and I love the pink and peachy colors :3

    • Jenny says:

Seriously, he should have just called it the top 9 reason why Mac sucks and left out that argument, it would have at least made him look like less of a douchebag (but stil equally dumb).

  9. Krystal says:

The snow seems to have like died here in the UK. There were some heavy snow about 3 weeks ago and have barely snowed since.

Seems like just a whole bunch of idiots. I don’t have a Mac myself and have used PC all my life, however I have a massive Mac lover too but haven’t had the money to afford one yet.

    • Jenny says:

Seems like it has been snowing a lot in areas all over the world :( I can’t wait for spring to come.

Macs are a little overpriced, but it definitely beats having to get a new laptop every year (which was what I have been doing before). Best investment I’ve made yet :)

  10. Mimi says:

The first article was nothing but a rant. It didn’t seem like much of an argument. Some of the information is off, too. I am personally a Mac girl. I love everything about them and it is NOT me trying to be trendy or “in” or whatever. I’ve been using Macs since my grandfather introduced me to them like… hmmmm 8 years ago? Something like that.

The second article is a lot better, seeing as though he provided justification. Although some of it is a bit outdated (like the “size” thing not showing when viewing documents), he does raise some good points.

Some PC people are very pretentious when it comes to trying to prove that PCs are better than Macs (and it can be vice versa). I think both are fine… both have pros and cons. If you’re a gamer, I definitely wouldn’t recommend a Mac. It all depends on what you want to do on your computer.

Kind of random, but here’s an argument with the opposite view: http://apcmag.com/15_reasons_macs_are_still_better_than_windows.htm. I think it’s interesting to read both opinions and see how they weigh against each other :P .

Girl, @ first I was stuck at home, snowed in. I lost my sanity, so when we had a break between the snow storms (because there were two), I caught the train to my friend’s house. I will admit, I DID miss school lol and I cannot wait to go back tomorrow. I have been very unproductive, however. It’s due to my lack of motivation. I didn’t know when we would return to school, so I was in no hurry to get it done lol.

    • Jenny says:

I’m the same as you: I got a Mac because it better suited my needs, not because I was trying to be “trendy”. If I really were, I would’ve gotten a pink Sony or Dell :/ This whole Mac vs PC thing is silly in my opinion, since it’s all a matter of personal preference and subjective judging standards, so what’s the big deal?

My snow week was damn unproductive too, because I had no idea whether or not I’d have class the next day, I’d leave everything till the last minute, only to find out that we get the next day off. And finally, when it was time to go back to school, I was busy designing the new layout for this blog instead of doing homework. Fail.

Btw, thanks for the article :) Mac FTW!

  11. Kaytlin says:

Hmm, see I personally am not either pro-Mac or pro-PC. I don’t mind either way — Windows has good and bad points, as does Apple. :) I have a PC because it’s what I’m comfortable with, I dislike trying to get used to using a Mac haha. I can agree with this blog, if those people are going to argue against Macs…they should make sure they know what they’re talking about! haha.

    • Jenny says:

I felt the same away about Mac at first, but once I did get used to it, I don’t ever want to go back. As a matter of fact, it’s now weird for me to use PC’s, even though I’ve used it my whole life. But this is just me ;)
