My HG skin care products

After 2 ranting and bitching posts, I’m starting to feel like an old lady, not to mention I’m probably boring you guys. So to redeem my youth (ha!), I’m going to share with you some of my favorite skin care products:

St. Ives Apricot Scrub (Renew and Firm)
My friend recommended the scrub to me a while ago, but when I got to the school shop, I realized there were several variations of this popular apricot scrub. In the end, I chose the Renew and Firm, not because I’m old, but because it contained alpha hydroxy, which helps with cellular renewal. I used it that night, and I couldn’t believe how soft my skin felt. Amazing, but be sure to use gentle/mild lotion after use because it can make your skin sensitive. But OMG, my skin is so soft now! I can’t stop touching it :D

Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Cleanser
I use this face wash every night, and it keeps my face pimple free. Sometimes I use a different cleanser or I get lazy at night, and a pimple might pop up to say hello. I use this again, and it makes the pimple go away. Yay.

Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment
My pimple blaster! I use this twice a day after washing my face on the tough little zit, and it usually goes away in 24 hours without leaving any scars or marks. It stings a bit because I tend to play my pimples (ok, so I’m weird), but I’d like to think that the pain means the product is working :P

Shiseido Anessa Perfect Sparkle Sunscreen
Unfortunately, I don’t think you can buy this in North American departments stores or Sephora. I like this because it works as a primer and contains tiny pearly molecules that give my skin a dewy glow. Even though it’s SPF 50/PA+++, it doesn’t make my face oily like the American sunscreens do, and it actually keeps my face from getting tanned.

Paper/Sheet Masks
This is one of those Asian things. Basically, the mask comes in individual packages instead of a tube or jar, and inside each package is a paper mask soaked in serum/lotion. If anything, these are my no.1 HG skin products. In desperate times, when my skin is dry, dull, and rough, I use these babies every night after I wash and tone my face, for a week, non-stop. After a week, my face is glowing, soft, and hydrated. Seriously. But because they’re so awesome, these don’t come cheap. You can buy them at SASA at about $1 per sheet. I got mine from Taiwan for about $0.25/sheet, and I brought back 400 sheets when I went back last summer. Nyahaha   Seriously though, this stuff is amazing.

If you’re hoping for more, well, this is the part where you’re going to be disappointed. Unfortunately, I still haven’t found my HG lotion or toner yet. At best the products I use now are “meh”, but they’re not something I’d buy again.

Does everyone use St. Ives Apricot Scrub? I recently read another entry that listed it as well. In any case, I really like it, too!

Lol, seems like it. I can’t believe I didn’t try it until now!

I wish we’d have the St. Ives products here. When I lived in Texas, I used to buy those products. Yay for soft skin ;)

Aw, it’s a shame they don’t carry it there. The next time you visit the US, you should buy some and bring it back with you :D

Hmmm my HG would be MAC’s cream color base in pearl. You can use that thing anywhere on ur face, under ur brow bone, highlight your cheek, highlight your temples, inner corner of your eye, underneath your eyeshadow.. I love it! i’ve gone through like 3 in the last year hahahha.

Ahh, I’ve always wanted to walk into a MAC store and buy something, since I’ve heard so many great things about them. One more item to add to my to-check-out list now :)

  • http://dreaminginthedark.org B

I love St. Ives! I use a few of the products and have never been disappointed!

    • http://riyuu.org Mimi

I tried their body wash before, but that was disappointing. Good thing their scrub wasn’t though!

  • http://amourchaleur.com Dayna

I use to use St Ives too, but it’s too rough for me and hurts my skin because I’ve some acne issues. :( But it’s good though without the acne element.

I’ve stock up lots of the sheet masks but don’t really use them now, again due to my acne issues.

I only use BodyShop aloe foaming cleanser, Danielkern BP 2.5% (this one is my HG, I can’t live without it now), and BodyShop Vit E moisture mask to prevent peeling due to the BP. :(

Yeah, the sheet masks can be a bit too rich and overwhelming, especially in the summer time when my oil glands flare up.
I’ve heard lots of good things about BodyShop as well. Need to go try out their skin care products one day.

St. Ives done nothing good to my skin. It just made my skin itchy. I’ve used Clean & Clear prods too but no good. Eep. So I see you’re an avid fan of C&C? Heehee

    • http://riyuu.org Mimi

That’s what happened when I used their body wash. I like Clean & Clear because it gets the job done, but I’ve started using Biore now, and I realized that it’s pretty much the same stuff. :/ Ah well, whatever keeps the pimples away.

  • http://so-lovely.info Ivy

the apricot scrub is very nice i really liked it :) im out so i will need to buy more :) for acne cleanser, i just use whatever is over the counter because they work just as well as proactiv :\ and other medicated ones

    • http://riyuu.org Mimi

I think as long as your acne isn’t too severe, over the counter skin care products can usually get the job done.
Yay for another St. Ives fan!

  • http://blog.rikuka-doll.net/ rikuka

um first of all. . . i love the icon! ;p
i really like a lot of st.ives products. i used to use the apple hydroxy mask. i think i’ll try that sunscreen. i live near a shisedo store, hopefully they’ll carry it.
& if you’re looking for a good toner i use “biore triple action astringent.” i’ve been using it for the past year or so; it works very well :)

    rikuka´s last blog post..HELP!!

    • http://riyuu.org Mimi

haha, it must have been MatsuJun’s beauty :P I’m actually trying out Biore’s face wash right now, and it’s not too bad. I’ll definitely give their toner a try once I’m done with my H2o+ and Biotherm ones -_-

Got to love skin care products <3 I have so many of them myself because of my skin doctor. I feel a little bad that I canceled my last appointment though. I just don’t feel like calling in a new one unless I feel I really need to. Hope she doesn’t get all.. rawr with me for it haha.

BTW, would you like to link exchange with me? I figured we should since we have been visiting each others blogs a lot recently.

I can’t imagine how many products I’d have if I were to visit a skin doctor! I’m sure your doctor won’t bite you for missing out; she’s probably too busy to realize anyways D:

      Link added!

I like St. Ives… they’re really tender and soft. I find that Clean and Clear is still too strong, but works for a lot of people that I Know… :)

Yes, the St. Ives scrub is exceptionally gentle on the skin. It’s not too rough or anything, which I like.
Have you tried C&C’s cream cleansers? It might be a bit more gentle on the skin.

  • http://www.silent-white.com/ Cat

Ooh, I always like seeing what people use for skin care. I normally use acne washes from Neutrogena. They work well for me and are also fairly gentle on the skin. I’ve also started using a couple Biore products too.

I’ve tried Neutrogena products before, but they tend to dry out my skin :(

  • http://www.guitarangel.net Melissa

Ooooh….I’ll have to go try that scrub stuff. I’m in the market for a really good body wash/scrub and lotion lately, for all seasons. My skin is just dry year round. :(

Thanks for the recommendations! Yay! :D

    • http://riyuu.org Mimi

Yes, I definitely recommend you try it! I’m also on the lookout for a good lotion for the winter times. Bleh to dry flaky skin :(

  • http://hoshigirl.com Gel

If my mom sees this blog entry she’ll really relate with it coz she uses tons of good products for her skin haha. As for scrubs and such that’s something I really need at the moment especially coz my skin’s getting extra dry lately :s

    • http://riyuu.org Mimi

Haha, I should have a little chit chat with your mom then :P
The St. Ives scrub is actually more cream than grains, so its pretty gentle on the skin.

  • http://twentyfourcarat.net Katy

It’s funny because I’m obsessed with make up but I couldn’t give a crap about skincare! Sometimes I’d go a day without moisturizer *gasp!* … but that’s usually because I went to boyfriends or the gym in the morning and left it at home. =P

*Gasp* Yet your skin still looks like that? -_- Some people get all the good genes.

omg it won’t let me comment and sends me to some creepy site O_O
    I hope this works now.

    • http://riyuu.org Mimi

Creepy site? o_o I hope it wasn’t p0rn or anything like that. Hopefully it doesn’t happen again.

  • http://www.comotized.com Melissa

I have a hard time with facial products as my skin is super sensitive but I’ve been playing with some samples from mario badescu and i absolutely adore them, especially the drying mask. His products are super gentle but they work wonders, my skin has never been so soft before :D

    • http://riyuu.org Mimi

I should recommend my friend to try out Mario Badescu’s products then (she has sensitive skin as well). I can’t wait for my sample to come, even though I still didn’t get the email yet :(

  • http://infelicitous.org Vai

To be honest, I still don’t know exactly what my skin type is. During the winter, it’s extremely dry, then during the summer, it turns oily. Oh and during the seasonal changes, it turns sensitive. :/

You should try out Mario Badescu’s products. According to Melissa, they work quite well.

  • http://beatifique.org Ai~

I used to use St. Ives too — haha, it's a super popular and effective brand. Now I just switched to Pond's, since it's cheaper.

I'm allergic to Clean and Clear, lol . I found that out when I was a teenager, and never went back since.

Not really one for beauty products, though. But those oil absorbent papers ARE a lifesaver for people with oily skin. XD
